Fort Bend County Law Library has a good working collection of basic legal materials, for in-library use only. Most of the library's print collection consists of reference sources on Texas statutes and case law; U.S. Supreme Court case law and federal statutes; a wide selection of Texas practice guides and forms manuals; and other research materials, including legal encyclopedias, state case-law digests, and federal practice guides. In addition to the library's print collection, a number of legal research resources are available online and on the library's computers. Databases and digital resources include Westlaw, Lexis Advance, HeinOnline, Lexis Digital Library, Gale Legal Forms Library, Legal Information Reference Center, State Bar of Texas Practice Manuals and Jury Charges, James Publishing Forms, and Knowles Publishing guides.
While you do not need a library card to use the Law Library, to access databases from home, you will need a library card. Sign up for one here. Databases you can access from home include Lexis Digital Library, Gale Legal Forms Library, and Legal Information Reference Center.
The Law Library offers 1 hour Express Classes on Thursdays from 10 am to 11 am. Classes include database training on Westlaw, Lexis Advance, Lexis Digital Library, and HeinOnline. Additional classes include tech training on Adobe Pro, Word, and PowerPoint. Registration is required. Visit our website at www.fortbend.lib.tx.us to register.
The Law Library hosts a series called Attorney Lecture Series. This series can focus on aspects of the practice of Law for attorneys. Check our calendar for upcoming programs.
The Law Library also hosts CLE’s from Westlaw and Lexis. Check our calendar for upcoming programs. Note: All program are virtual at this time.
The Law Library has four conference rooms. Two are available for reservation. To reserve a conference room, visit our website. Note: No reservations at this time. Smaller rooms are available.
The Law Library has ten public computers with internet access. Wi-Fi is also accessible through the Justice Center. The Law Library also provides Microsoft Word and WordPerfect Office suites and Adobe Pro. Note: Limited access at this time. Not all computers are available.
The Law Library offers printing and scanning services. This includes two photo copiers with scan to email and USB functions. Cost for printing and photocopying is $.10 cents a page.
Scanning services are free of charge.
The Law Library sends and receives faxes. Local and Received Faxes are $1.00 per page. Long Distance Faxes are $2.00 per page. Cover Sheets can be provided.
The Law Library maintains many resource guides for professionals detailing the various resources the library offers.
